Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has provided the procedure it uses to bill customers paying for supply of water.
In an update on June 3, the company detailed a billing cycle consisting of four steps followed before arriving at the final bill for each customer.
“Here is a summary of our Billing cycle for a better understanding of how your bill is generated. Dial *888# to query your bill,” read the caption on the poster update.
In the first step, the system generates a 30-day billing cycle for every customer.

Afterwards, a meter is read to generate a bill immediately which the customer gets via SMS or on the registered email or both.
“The customer is then given 14 days’ notice period to settle the current bill. On 15th day, the bill is due for disconnection if not paid,” Nairobi Water said.
The billing cycle automatically starts again, and a new bill is generated on the same date as the previous month.
