Drama was witnessed in Narok County after police officers blocked opposition leader Raila Odinga’s motorcade on Sunday, September 3 forcing the Azimio coalition leader to alight from his vehicle to handle the situation.
The opposition chief was on his way to Narok town for a meet and greet session from a thanksgiving church ceremony for ODM nominated MCA Christine Lemeon.
Police officers barricaded the road with a police lorry preventing Raila Odinga from accessing the highway.
Moreover, Odinga was flanked by other prominent Azimio leaders, including former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
The former prime minister held a brief roadside meeting with the officers who blocked his motorcade and demanded to talk to their boss.

Odinga stated that it was unfair for the police to stop them on a public highway.
“I’m a former Prime Minister of this country, you cannot block me because there is a procession in town. This is a highway,” Raila said.
However, the officers argued that there was a big procession prompting them to close the road to avoid traffic.
Furthermore, the police boss informed Raila of a “large procession” in Narok town, highlighting police actions were necessary to prevent potential conflicts.
Nonetheless, the police officers cleared the way for Odinga’s motorcade to proceed to Narok town for the scheduled meet and greet.
Raila on Mau Forest Conservation
While in Narok County, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader faulted the government for their lack of commitment in conserving the Mau Forest.
He blamed the president William Ruto-led administration for allowing encroachment of the forest, citing the risks of wiping out the forest cover.

“I have been frequently flying over the forest and what I’m currently seeing is totally destruction to the forest and that should stop with immediate effect,” Raila said.
Likewise, Odinga stated that it is necessary to conserve Mau Forest at all costs as millions of people depend on it.
“Many people are depending on these forests for their livelihoods and destroying them means destroying their lives,” Raila added.
Furthermore, the Azimio leader thanked the Maasai community for standing with him in the rehabilitation of the Mau Forest.
