National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichungwah has said parliament is the right avenue to address complaints raised by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition including electoral reforms and lowering the cost of living.
The majority leader said parliament has a constitutional duty to resolve matters that are of concern to the people.
Ichung’wah’s remarks came after President Ruto suggested a bi-partisan approach to resolve the ongoing impasse with the opposition team concerning recruitment of new IEBC commissioners.
Moreover, the president urged Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga to call off planned protests to allow parliament look into his concerns on the recruitment of the new electoral commissioners.
This came after the opposition chief accused the electoral body of denying him victory in the 2022 general elections. Mr. Odinga had further accused President William Ruto of influencing the enlistment of the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.

Nonetheless, the Azimio leader commended the bi-partisan approach in the re-formation of IEBC as announced by President Ruto. He also called for the reinstatement of the embattled Cherera Four.
According to Raila Odinga, it was unfair for Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyagaya, and Irene Masit to be the sacrificial lamb following the 2022 election results wrangle.
Concerning the bi-partisan approach on the reconstitution of IEBC, the opposition chief, while welcoming the move, also called for a speedy commencement of the process to resolve the ongoing crisis in the political arena.
“In our view, this committee must be composed with immediate effect with strict deadlines for resolving the crisis facing the country,” Mr. Odinga satated while addressing the press at his Capitol Hill Offices on Sunday, April 2 evening.
