IG Kanja Establishes New Police Stations and Posts Across Counties

Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja Kirocho has officially designated a new police station and police posts under the National Police Service Act.

According to Gazette Notice dated January 23, Kamuguga Police Station in Kiambu County has been formally recognized as a police station.

“In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 40 (1) of the National Police Service Act, the Inspector-General designates various establishments particulars of which are set out in the Schedule hereto, to be Police Station or Post, for the purpose of this Act,” read part of the notice.

Separately, the Inspector-General also designated multiple police posts across the country.

The Gazette Notice dated January 24, 2026, lists the following:

  • Otonglo Police Post in Kisumu West, Kisumu County
  • Mabera Police Post in Kuria West, Migori County
  • Lagbogol Police Post in Wajir West, Wajir County
  • Gataka Police Post in Kajiado North, Kajiado County
  • Thuura Police Post in Imenti East, Meru County

IG Kanja Opens 92 New Police Stations Nationwide 

This follows after Kanja designated 92 new police stations across the country, marking an expansion of Kenya’s policing infrastructure.

According to the notice dated September 8, 2025, the new stations, spread across all regions, are intended to strengthen law enforcement coverage, shorten response times, and enhance public safety.

They include facilities in border areas, transport hubs, airports, and rail stations, as well as in rural and urban counties.

The gazetted stations stretch from Liboi in Garissa County to Kisumu Railport, covering key sub-counties such as Turkana East, Laikipia, Kajiado, Machakos, and Marsabit.

Kanja stated that the designations officially take effect under the National Police Service Act, making each listed establishment a fully recognized police station.

The rollout is part of broader reforms to modernize Kenya’s policing infrastructure, with emphasis on accessibility, digital mapping, and national security coverage.
