Investigators from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) have launched a probe on 8 police officers over the fatal Kisumu shooting on Tuesday.
The officers are said to be implicated in the shooting, as Kisumu County police commander Alphonse Wambua confirms they are in lock up and questioning regarding the incident.
The incident involved an altercation at Jua Kali in Kisumu, where a form two student was killed, and three other people hospitalized for treatment after police lobbed live bullets following a failed attempt to arrest traffic offenders.

Reports indicate that trouble began when a PSV driver being pursued by the police failed to stop his car at Jua Kali area forcing the officers to lobby teargas canisters.

The shooting incident led to tension in the lakeside city yesterday with protests from locals and leaders demanding action against the officers involved.
The officers have been arrested and today been presented for statement taking at the IPOA Kisumu offices awaiting the next course of action as the probe kicks off.
