Israel’s Ambassador to Kenya, Michael Lotem, has announced his exit following the conclusion of his tenure.
In a statement on August 14, 2025, Michael Lotem reflected on his time as an ambassador, expressing appreciation for the relationships and collaborations he has built over the years.
“As I conclude my tenure as Israel’s Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Seychelles, I do so with deep gratitude and a full heart. Serving this remarkable region has been both a privilege and a profound journey,” he said.
He described his tenure as a journey filled with purpose, learning, and shared accomplishments.
Michael Lotem Announces Exit
Michael added that he had the honour of meeting many wonderful and supportive people, whose support was deeply appreciated.
“Together, they built bridges and nurtured partnerships that he is proud to leave behind,” he said.
Additionally, he stated that each country has played a role in shaping what he described as part of their shared legacy.
Each country has left its unique imprint on him, including its people, its spirit, and its unwavering hospitality.
In his farewell message, Lotem said he is taking with him not only professional achievements but also personal memories and friendships to cherish for a lifetime.
Moreover, he reflected on the work that still lies ahead, seeing it as an encouraging call to action that will continue to drive progress even after his departure.
Though his official role is coming to an end, he said that his connection with the region remains, and he expressed heartfelt thanks for the trust, collaboration, and memorable moments shared.
“Thank you for your trust, your collaboration, and the many moments we have shared,” Lotem said.

About Michael Lotem
Ambassador Michael Lotem started his diplomatic journey in Swaziland in 1993.
During his years in service, both abroad and at headquarters, he focused on promoting trade and economic relations as a key pillar in strengthening bilateral ties.
He spent most of his 30-year diplomatic career serving in Eastern Europe and the CIS, including roles as Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan (2004–2006), Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2009–2012), and Consul General in St. Petersburg, Russia (2014–2017).

He was appointed Special Envoy for Energy (2012–2014) and later Head of the Economic Department in the MFA (Asia, CIS)
After that, Lotem came to Africa as Ambassador to Kenya, accredited to Malawi and Uganda, and designated to Tanzania and Seychelles.
While in Kenya in 2023, Ambassador Michael Lotem visited Busia County and laid the foundation stone for the Kenlinks Solution Ltd Centre, a digital innovation hub.
On July 31, 2025, he returned as Chief Guest to officially inaugurate the facility, bringing to life a shared vision of stronger technological and economic ties between Israel and East Africa.
