Pastor James “Jimmy” Irungu collapsed early on Thursday, January 8, morning while attempting to complete an 80-hour tree-hugging challenge aimed at raising awareness about cancer.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:29 a.m., just one hour before the scheduled conclusion of the marathon event.
Irungu, a gospel singer and environmental activist, began the challenge on Sunday, January 4, and had pledged to remain in physical contact with a tree for 80 consecutive hours.
The initiative, staged in Murang’a County, was designed to draw attention to the growing cancer burden in Kenya and to call for urgent government intervention.
Witnesses reported that Irungu suddenly fainted after enduring nearly 79 hours without rest.
He was immediately rushed to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital, where medical personnel are monitoring his condition.
Irungu’s Cancer Campaign
