A new Kenyan cultural initiative has been launched in the United Kingdom, bringing together members of the Kenyan diaspora for a program combining cultural heritage, community engagement, football and entertainment.
The Kalenjin Gaa Nenyoo UK initiative was officially launched in Bristol on August 8 at the Kip Keino Athletics Stadium.
According to Keino, the ties between kenya and the UK are aimed at creating a positive future.
“It is these young people that we have to think of. It is their future that matters to us, and we have a responsibility to protect and nurture them,” Keino stated at the Bristol Academy of Sport.

Legendary Kenyan athlete Dr Kipchoge Keino attended the launch alongside Kenya’s UK Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Irene Maswan, among other guests.
Speaking at the launch, Kipchoge Keino called on Kenyans in the United Kingdom to preserve their cultural heritage and pass the community’s traditions and legacy to future generations.

Kalenjin Gaa Nenyoo Event Schedule
The launch also marked the introduction of a newly appointed committee led by Chairman Kibny’aan’ko Arap Seroney.
During the initiative launch, the committee pledged to build on the community’s existing legacy while ensuring that Kalenjin heritage remains relevant to younger generations in the UK.
According to the organizers, the program was taking place across three UK locations, combining cultural activities, football and entertainment.
The first program ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bristol, featuring the Kalenjin Gaa Nenyoo launch and meet-and-greet.
Later, the event moved to Cambridge between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., where Kenyans in the UK were scheduled to participate in football friendlies.
The day’s activities were expected to culminate in Northampton, where the main concert was scheduled to run from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Escape Venue.
Entertainment at the Bristol event featured DJ Thew, DJ Nosh and Yoyo Zing, the 𝙽𝚘𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚝 𝙽𝚎𝚘𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚑𝚒𝚝𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎𝚛.

Details of the Event Venue
The Kip Keino Athletics Stadium in Bristol is a landmark of the ties between Kenya and the UK through athletics, community and cultural exchange.
Located at the WISE Campus of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS College) in Stoke Gifford, the stadium opened in 2010.
In preparation for the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Kenyan Olympic team selected Bristol as its UK training base.
Additionally, the venue was also reported to have received UK Athletics Class A certification, placing it among the high-standard athletics facilities in south-west England for major track-and-field events.
The stadium was developed as part of the Bristol Academy of Sport and features a competition-standard athletics track, football facilities, spectator seating, floodlights and modern field-event infrastructure.
According to Bristol City Council reports, construction of the stadium cost an approximate investment of KSh 226.6 million, which included KSh 78.4 million from Bristol City Council.
The stadium was named in honor of Kenyan athletics legend Kipchoge “Kip” Keino.
In his athletic career, Keino won gold medals in the 1,500 meters at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Further, he won four Olympic medals and Commonwealth Games gold medals in the mile and three miles in 1966, and the 1,500 meters in 1970.
Keino also set the world records in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters during the 1960s.
