Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has advised Kenyan youth to track all advertised government contracts and procurement processes.
Speaking during a church service in Thika on Sunday, August 11, Kalonzo said that Gen Z should scrutinize all advertisements made by President William Ruto and the new broad-based government.
He explained that this would help identify contracts and procurements that may have been awarded even before they were advertised in national newspapers.
“I suggest to Gen Z that every contract and procurement that Ruto’s government will try to put in place during the current financial year, let’s go through those contracts and check whether some have been given out even before they were advertised. It is very possible for Gen Z to get into that and expose them,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo claimed that government politicians loot money from some of these contracts and use it to bribe people. He alleged that Mombasa residents were paid Ksh1,000 to attend Ruto’s recent event.
“If there is no transparency in awarding those tenders, let’s begin there. That’s the money they steal upfront and use to bribe Kenyans,” he said.
Kalonzo Accuses Govt of Paying Rally Attenders
Additionally, he accused Kenya Kwanza officials of using local leaders to try and convince people to attend Ruto’s rallies.
He stated that District Officers (DOs) and Chiefs were directed to mobilize people ahead of President Ruto’s visit to Murang’a County.
“Right now, they know they don’t have huge followership, so they reorganize. They send DOs and Chiefs, which is why they want village elders to be paid so that they can help mobilize the people. That’s okay; village elders are also Kenyans, let them be given money, but don’t waste your energy,” he said.
Kalonzo said the government should not hide the advertisements in obscure sections of the newspapers to cover their ill motives.
“I want to tell them not to place the adverts on page 32. They do small adverts, yet the contract has already been awarded,” he said.

Learn from Bangladesh
Furthermore, he asked Gen Z to learn from the Bangladesh revolution, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He explained that Bangladesh took some very drastic measures because it got to a point where the people could no longer tolerate the historical injustices committed by the overthrown government.
“The Prime Minister ran to India before flying to the UK. Even the Chief Justice resigned. Please remember that Bangladesh is a Commonwealth country like Kenya. People there demanded justice and the correction of historical injustices, like the killings,” Kalonzo said.

He also asked Kenyans to recall the incidents of 2007 post-election that claimed the lives of many people.
Kalonzo pledged to work with the leaders including Eugene Wamalwa, Jeremiah Kioni and Ferdinand Waititu, tour all parts of Kenya to bring them together going forward.
