Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged to lead the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance Coalition even without the involvement of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the Orange Democratic Movement party.
Speaking on Sunday, August 18, Kalonzo, along with Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, confirmed their commitment to remaining in the opposition.
Kalonzo affirmed his dedication to standing with Kenyans and leading the opposition alongside other interested parties and leaders.
“What is clear is that we have decided to move forward with Azimio together with the willing parties. Those who have chosen to join the government are also free to do so,” Kalonzo stated.
The former Vice President emphasized that the choice is between saving Kenya or saving President William Ruto by joining the Kenya Kwanza government.
He stressed that the country needs a strong opposition and urged Kenyans to place their trust in them as they assume this role.
“We have decided to remain in the opposition because the country needs us to be strong. Kenyans should believe in us; there is a significant trust deficit in this country. The choice is between saving Ruto and saving Kenya, and we have chosen to save Kenya. That is why we are here,” Kalonzo declared.

Kalonzo reiterated that the remaining Azimio parties are committed to protecting the interests of Kenyans, stating that Kenyans will eventually join their cause.
“This is crucial for the country, for a functional democracy. We need a strong, responsible opposition, and that is what this team has decided to be. It is very clear, and we are dealing with very responsible leaders who are determined to eliminate lies in politics,” he said.

Kalonzo on Gen Z & Broad-Based Govt
Kalonzo praised the youth, especially Generation Z, for rejecting the Finance Bill 2024, attributing this action to a Parliament that has been captured by the executive.
He emphasized that Generation Z, like other Kenyans, is free to exercise their rights directly, as provided for under Article 1 of the Constitution.
Kalonzo criticized the broad-based government, stating that it has ignored the issues raised by Generation Z.
“We believe this is a betrayal. This government is riding on the deaths of our children, and nobody has even bothered to look back and ask what happened,” he said.
