Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has promised to rally behind Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua if an impeachment motion is tabled against him.

Speaking in Kiambu town on Sunday, August 4, Kalonzo vowed to mobilize legislators to oppose any attempt to impeach DP Gachagua.

Kalonzo promised to thwart any attempt to impeach Gachagua, stating that he can only be removed if President William Ruto is removed as well.

“If there is a plan to remove Gachagua, we, as Azimio, say that he will not be removed alone. They should remove him along with Ruto,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo, who led a section of Azimio constituent parties to Kiambu where they held an impromptu rally, urged the Mount Kenya community to support his presidential bid in 2027.

The former Vice President announced that he has embarked on a campaign to unite the GEMA communities of Kikuyu, Meru, Embu, and Kamba.

Kalonzo claimed they had the blessings of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and promised the Mount Kenya community that they would reap significant benefits if they supported him in the next election.

“Going forward, you should be part of the Next Movement. Make no mistake because our brother Uhuru Kenyatta is with us,” Kalonzo said.

Additionally, the leaders voiced their support for the protest scheduled for August 8th, known as #nanenane, to push for Gen Z demands.

Eugene Wamalwa Endorses Kalonzo

Political leaders present criticized ODM leader Raila Odinga for aligning with President Ruto after ODM members were appointed to the cabinet.

They insisted that Kalonzo was now the leader of the Azimio Coalition and the face of the opposition in the country.

“Nobody had promised that if Ruto won there would be a Coalition government. Let Kalonzo lead us and make GEMA community for the future,” Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said.

The leaders officially announced that Kalonzo will run for the presidency in 2027 as the candidate of the three constituent parties and called on the Mount Kenya community to rally behind him.

“You know as Mount Kenya residents that you have friends who stood with you, and one of them is Kalonzo Musyoka,” DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said.

Kioni Plea to Mount Kenya

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni said Kalonzo is the only alternative after the latest political developments.

He announced that Jubilee will support Kalonzo and asked the Mount Kenya residents to be keen as they respond to the things happening in the political field.

“The one we are left with now, and the one we’re walking with, because there must be an alternative to the things happening in this country. We residents of this area should open our eyes. We walk with Kalonzo and pray to the Lord that His will be done,” Kioni said.

This came days after Wiper party leader Kalonzo declared himself the new leader of the Azimio Coalition following the appointment of ODM members to the cabinet.

Gachagua Impeachment Meeting

Reports have emerged that a Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee hosted 21 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Mount Kenya region on Saturday, July 27 and the meeting resolved to raise an impeachment motion against the DP on grounds of undermining the presidency.

According to media reports, the leaders accused Gachagua of gross violation of the Constitution and gross misconduct.

Additionally, the leaders accused Gachagua of insubordination to his boss and undermining the presidency owing to his divisive tribal and shareholding narrative.
