Karangu wa Muraya, alongside other musicians from the Mt Kenya region, visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s official residence in Karen on May 23, 2025.
Kikuyu vernacular musicians like Samidoh, Ngaruiya Junior, and Karangu Muraya were all present in the forum where Kindiki said set a stage for a discussion on how “Government can support their work and the industry as a whole”.
In his speech, Muraya said that Kenyans do not take seriously information relayed by the government, and as a result, they need people who have benefited from the information to make them believe.
“Information is power. Sometimes we see the government trying to say that things are working the ground does not listen,” he explained.
Muraya then narrated how he had found it so hard to take care of his sick brother, who is admitted to Karira Mission Hospital in Mwea.
Karangu Muraya speaks about SHA
He said that the Social Health Authority (SHA) came in handy and helped them pay Ksh 460,000.
“My own brother has been hospitalized since February at Karira Mission Hospital in Mwea. Yesterday, SHA paid Kshs 460,000,” he said.
He went on to assert that SHA is working, a remark that has triggered reactions from Kenyans on social media.
Acknowledging the role Social Health Authority played in the medical journey of his brother, the musician and influencer said that without its support, he had no other means of getting such a huge amount of money to settle the bill.
“I would have started creating WhatsApp groups,” he stated.

Karangu Muraya said that Kenyans are giving negative feedback about SHA, saying it is not working, yet it is not true since he was a beneficiary.
“Kenyans say SHA is not working by hearing from others because they like listening to the negative side of everything,” Muraya remarked.
“We are learned, but we cannot say it on Facebook, we have to put it aside so that people can think we are stupid and help us.”
He assured DP, Kindiki, of their support as musicians from Mount Kenya.
Reactions on Muraya’s speech
This remark has sparked mixed reaction. X user, georgenjoroge_ criticises him, asking him to refund the medical bills he had been begging from people.
“How does a man become this shameless? Karangu Muraya milked sympathy cash from Kenyans to treat his brother then posed with Kindiki claiming SHA paid the full bill. So, if taxpayers covered it, refund the people. If you don’t, you’re a con mukurinu,” he said.

Other X influencers like @itskipronoh have also commented on the same, asking Muraya to return the money he had been helped to raise by Kenyans.
“Karangu Muraya has been busy fundraising for his sick brother, but today after meeting Kindiki he said SHA has covered the full cost. He should return the money then,” he said.
