Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Saturday, September 23, vowed to continue with her Okolea meetings despite an earlier warning from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
Taking to her Facebook account, Governor Mwangaza posted a photo of her spouse Murega Baichu with a truck full of the mattresses that the duo gives out to the needy in Meru.
Further, the governor quoted a scripture reading, “Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices.”
“Operation Okolea Kaana Ka Miiru (save Meru’s child) Continues,” Kawira affirmed.
The governor’s statement came barely a day after Interior CS Kindiki issued a stern warning on political activities threatening peace and order in Meru.
Kindiki’s Stance on Meru Wrangles
Addressing Meru residents on Friday, September 22, Kindiki called out the Governor over incitement and political activities aimed at discrediting her opponent.
In a stern tone, Kindiki vowed to end violent political activities in the area citing the violence experienced one week earlier when a group of rowdy people vandalized goods meant for donation.
Further, Kindiki directed security agencies to enforce a ban on any political meetings with signs of degenerating into chaos in Meru County.
“Political differences must not be used to incite violence, destruction of property and public disorder,” Kindiki stated.

Meru Supremacy Battles
Supremacy battles have rocked Meru County’s leadership in the recent past with Governor Mwangaza going against a group of seasoned politicians from the region.
Having survived an impeachment within the first year of her term, Mwangaza has intensified ‘meet the people’ tours around the county often traversing various regions while issuing goods.
According to Mwangaza, her activities are aimed at empowering her Meru constituents through charity and making their lives better.

“We want to emphasize that we will not be deterred from our mission to help those in need.
We will continue to reach out to the less fortunate and play our part in improving people’s lives,” Mwangaza stated after the Sunday, September 17 incident.
However, her acts have been met with opposition from politicians said to be eying control over the region’s politics.
