Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two employees of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza including her bodyguard, in the ongoing investigations to the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
The Head of Staff at the governor’s office Nchamba Mbithi addressed the press on Friday, January 5, confirming that the bodyguard was arrested on Thursday 4.
Additionally, he stated that the other staff implicated in the case was a close person to the governor noting that he was arrested by the sleuths on Wednesday 3.
Further, Mbithi stated that he was ready, together with the other members of staff, to present themselves before the DCI if needed for testimony.
The two are among five suspects arrested for the murder of the political blogger commonly known as “Sniper”, as DCI continues with its investigations into the matter.
“I pray that people stop spreading rumors that I have also been arrested. Many are circulating false information online. I am ready to appear before the DCI if called upon,” he stated.

Earlier on January 3, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) noted that it had constituted a team of senior prosecutors to guide investigations into the mysterious death of ‘Sniper”.
Further, ODPP indicated that a suspect named Vincent Murithi alias Supuu had already been arraigned in court on January 2 in Kiambu County adding that he would remain in custody until January 8 when the magistrate court in Kiambu will rule on a request by the prosecution side to hold him for 21 days.
Also, ODPP noted that it had directed the Inspector General of Police to forward the findings of investigations into the murder within seven days.
“In addition, pursuant to the provisions of Article 157 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, the DPP has directed the Inspector General of the National Police Service to forward the resultant Murder Inquiry File to his Office within Seven (7) days from the date hereof,” the statement read in part.

The Death of Sniper
At the same time, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions revealed that the death of Sniper was caused by Asphyxia, a condition where the body is deprived of oxygen, after manual strangulation.
Meanwhile, residents of Meru have continued to call for justice over the death Sniper which was reported in December 2023.
According to reports, the deceased was set to meet with Meru County Leadership on Saturday, December 2, 2023, when he was reported missing.
Muthiani reportedly received a call on the day of his disappearance from a well-known acquaintance who wanted him to meet a politician.
However, he only confirmed his arrival at the destination to his wife, marking the last conversation between the couple.
Since then, his phone was switched off and no information of his whereabouts was forthcoming until December 17 when he was found dead.
