The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced a public auction of cast vehicles, equipment and general stores in regions of Nanyuki, Mombasa, Nairobi and Nakuru.
In a notice dated March 27, the Ministry said vehicles and other times can be viewed from April 7, 2025, during working days only (Monday to Friday) except on public holidays.

Items can be viewed in the following areas in Nairobi region (DEFOD – Kahawa), 12 Engrs – Thika, 23 OCC-Lanet, Nanyuki region (43 OCC) and Coastal Region (Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe and Mariakani Garrison) between 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The goods will be sold on ‘as-is-where-is’ basis.

Catalogues giving full details of items may be obtained on viewing days upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Ksh1,000.00 (One Thousand Shillings).
Interested bidders can get the catalogues from the following offices Ulinzi house main gate along Lenana road, 23 OCC, Lanet, 43 OCC, Nanyuki, KNB Mtongwe and DEFOD, Kahawa.

However, the Ministry explained that bidders who will purchase motor vehicle(s) will be required to ensure that the vehicles are painted with non-military colour patterns (where applicable) before being put on the road.
“No Ex – Military vehicle should be put on the road with EX – Military number plates contrary to which the vehicle will be impounded immediately,” reads part of the statement.
Non-Refundable Deposit & Sale Yards
Besides, interested bidders will be required to pay a refundable bid number deposit of Ksh50,000.00 and Ksh30,000.00 for vehicles/equipment and stores respectively in cash payable to Ministry of Defence before the last day of viewing.
“Each Bid number will only be allowed to bid for one Lot only. Original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and bid number deposits will be presented at the entrance for one to be allowed to participate in the auction,” the Ministry said.
The Public Auction will be undertaken at the following sale yards on the dates indicated against each:
- MOD/423(0701) 2024/2025 – KNB Mtongwe 29 Apr 25 at 10:00 am.
- MOD/423(0702) 2024/2025 – 43 OCC Nanyuki -06 May 25 at 10:00 am.
- MOD/423(0704) 2024/22025-23 OCC Lanet 13 May 25 at 10:00 am.
- MOD/423(0703) 2024/2025 – DEFOD Kahawa -20 May 25 at 10:00 am.

Other Directives from Ministry of Defence
All successful bidders will be required to pay a deposit of 25% of the bid at the fall of the hammer and the remaining balance within 14 days after the auction, failure to which the award will be cancelled and the deposit forfeited.
Additionally, unsuccessful bidders will be refunded the bid number deposits on presentation of the respective original receipts.
Successful bidders tender bid deposit will be credited to his/her bid price and thereafter he/she will be required to top up the difference thereof.
They will be required to collect their item(s) within 30 days after making full payment failure to which they will be liable to pay storage charges at a rate of 1% of bid offer per day up to a maximum of three months.

“Items not collected within the three months will be forfeited together with the monies paid against them,” MOD said.
Successful bidders will also be responsible for payment of duty, VAT and other related charges, where applicable, as established under Government regulations.
The sale is subject to a Reserve Price and the Ministry reserves the right to reject any bid below the reserve price and does not bind itself to give the reasons for the rejection.
All successful bidders must also get clearance from KRA before collection of the items from the sale yards.
