Police have arrested a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer in Homa Bay County in connection with the brutal murder of a 30-year-old man named Collins Okiro in Sino village, Rachuonyo South Sub County.
The KDF officer, along with his brother and another man, allegedly lured Okiro from his home on April 7, leading him to a nearby thicket and beat him to death.
Okiro’s wife later identified the KDF officer and his brother, prompting a police investigation that resulted in the officer’s arrest.
The officer is currently detained at Oyugis police station, while a manhunt is underway for the two remaining suspects involved in the murder.
How KDF officer Lured victim
Rachuonyo South Subcounty Police Commander Lilies Wachira said the KDF officer who was in company of his brother and another man went to Okiro’s house at 9am on April 7.
“The deceased man’s wife recorded statement saying her husband left home with the KDF officer and his team peacefully,”

“She doesn’t know the third person, but the officer and his brother come from the same village with his husband,”
“We arrested the KDF officer, and we are still looking for the remaining two suspects in connection with the murder,” said Wachira.
Details of the viral video
Okiro was blindfolded with a red piece of cloth before he was brutally murdered, with video footage of the assault circulating on social media platforms.
The video seen by The Kenya Times, shows Collins Okiro laying on the dirt as two men assault him for allegedly stealing.
One man is seen with his foot on his neck and face while the other whips him. The men are then heard asking the man to name the people he steals with.
“Sema unaiba na nani” (Say who you steal with) asks one man.
Similar cases of law enforcement officers being detained
This is not an isolated case of law enforcement officers breaking the law.
For instance, in Nakuru, constable Nicholas Musyoka Musau was charged with the murder of two people at a club on the night of December 12.

Additionally, former police officer David Mwongera was jailed for 15 years for killing a 24-year-old man in Nairobi’s Majengo in 2020.
