Motorists using Waiyaki Way in Nairobi will face traffic disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary partial closure of a section of the road for maintenance work.
In a notice on October 1, KeNHA said the affected section is on the Mombasa-bound lanes between Kempinski and the Museum Hill Interchange.
The authority said the partial closure will take effect on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and remain in place until Saturday, November 7, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between Kempinski and Museum Hill Interchange on the Mombasa-bound lanes will be partially closed temporarily from Thursday, October 8, 2026 to Saturday, November 7, 2026,”stated KeNHA.
According to KeNHA, the closure is intended to allow highway maintenance works on the road section.
Motorists using Waiyaki Way during the period have been advised to use the unclosed sections of the road and consider alternative routes to minimize traffic disruptions.
KeNHA further urged road users to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed along the route.

The authority said normal traffic operations will resume once the maintenance works are completed.
“Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” wrote KeNHA.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Motorists affected by the partial closure of Waiyaki Way between Kempinski and Museum Hill Interchange can consider the following routes to avoid congestion:
- James Gichuru Road – State House Road – Uhuru Highway for traffic heading to Nairobi CBD, Upper Hill and Mombasa Road.
- Limuru Road via Westlands and Pangani for motorists accessing the city centre from the western suburbs.
- Red Hill Link Road and Limuru Road for motorists travelling between Westlands, Gigiri, Rosslyn and surrounding areas.
- Southern Bypass for through traffic travelling between Kikuyu, Karen, Lang’ata and Mombasa Road without passing through the city centre.
- Nairobi Expressway for motorists heading toward the CBD, South B, South C, JKIA and Mombasa Road who wish to avoid surface-road congestion.

KeNHA Earlier Closure of Waiyaki Way Between GTC and Kempinski
KeNHA earlier announced a temporary partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between GTC and Kempinski on the Mombasa-bound lanes.
In a notice on Friday, July 24, KeNHA said the partial closure will take effect from Friday, July 31, 2026, until Monday, August 31.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between GTC and Kempinski on the Mombasa-bound lanes will be temporarily closed from Friday, July 31, to Monday, August 31,” the notice read.
According to the authority, the temporary closure was intended to allow maintenance works on the affected section of the highway.
KeNHA advised motorists using Waiyaki Way during the period to utilize the sections of the road that will remain open and to consider alternative routes to minimize traffic disruption.
The authority further urged road users to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed at the site to manage traffic flow.
