The National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law Organization) has announced 16 vacancies for law graduates.
Kenya Law in a notice invited applications for 16 Legal Assistant positions who will be charged with duties including analyzing legal judgments and identifying the area of law, among others.
All interested individuals interested in the positions should submit their applications on or before November 6, 2024, at 1700hrs (East African Time).
“In keeping with its obligations under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 particularly Articles 27 and 232(1)(h) Kenya Law encourages eligible persons from minority groups or marginalized communities and persons with disabilities to apply for this vacancy. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” the Kenya Law stated in the announcement.
Kenya Law: Minimum Requirements for Suitable Candidate
- Diploma in Law, paralegal studies, or equivalent Social Sciences or related field.
- Previous experience in legal research, copyreading, and law reporting will be an added advantage.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Team player with a proactive attitude.

Application Procedure
All applications are to be sent by email with the subject line being the vacancy applied for to the email address: [email protected].
The application email should be sent in two parts or documents.
The first document will contain the following information in one continuous document in portable document format (PDF), with information arranged in the following order:
- A cover letter
- A recent coloured passport-size photograph of oneself
- A copy of one’s national identity card
- A curriculum vitae setting out the following information about oneself:
- Name, gender, date of birth and contact
- Academic and professional qualifications
- A list of academic and professional certificates
- Previous work experience and/or professional engagements
- Membership of any professional associations
- The range of languages spoken, including one’s mother tongue
- Any community service and social welfare activities engaged in
- Names and contacts of three persons who can attest to the candidate’s academic, professional and moral standing.
The second document will be one continuous document in PDF format containing the scanned images of the most relevant academic and professional certificates. The document size should not exceed 10 mbs.

Successful applicants will be expected to perform various tasks as listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze legal judgments and identify the area of law
- Assist in marking up and annotation of judicial decisions
- Review anonymization of the judicial decisions
- Assist in the extraction of cases, statutes, abbreviations, international instruments and text and journals cited and advocates in all judicial opinions
- Assist in assigning proper citations of all cases published in the case law database
- Assist in conducting legal research
The Kenya Law
The National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law) is a state corporation established under the National Council for Law Reporting Act, of 1994. Its mandate includes:
- Monitoring and reporting on the development of Kenyan jurisprudence through the publication of the Kenya Law Reports.
- Revising, consolidating and publishing the Laws of Kenya under delegated authority from the Attorney General; and
- Undertaking such other related publications and perform such other functions as may be conferred by law.
Kenya Law is the focal point institution in providing access to public legal information.
It is led by a Council chaired by the Chief Justice and managed through a Secretariat headed by the Editor or Chief Executive Officer. Kenya Law’s principal office is in Nairobi.
