The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed Nairobi among areas expected to receive heavy rainfall this week. In a statement on April 20, Kenya Met predicted isolated heavy rainfall events in some areas from April 21 to 27.
According to the Kenya Met statement, rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of: Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, South Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, Coast, and Northeastern parts of Kenya.
“Isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in some parts of these regions,” the statement read in part.
Kenya Met Lists Areas to Experience Heavy Rains This Week
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, rainfall is predicted in counties including Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok.
In North-western Kenya, rainfall is expected in Turkana and Samburu counties.
“Mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected over few places occasionally spreading to several places,” Kenya Met stated.

In North-eastern Kenya, the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are expected to receive rainfall.
The southeastern lowlands, which include the counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County, are also predicted to receive rainfall.
At the Coast, rainfall is expected in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the Tana Delta.

Temperature Outlook
According to the weatherman, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. The hottest conditions are forecast in areas such as Lodwar (37°C), Garissa (36°C), Mandera (35°C), and Lamu (34°C).

In the Central Highlands and parts of the Rift Valley, cooler daytime conditions are expected, with towns such as Nyeri (24°C), Nakuru (24°C), and Eldoret (23°C projected to record lower temperatures.
Night temperatures are expected to drop significantly in several regions. Areas such as Nyahururu (11°C), Kericho (12°C), and Laikipia (13°C) are expected to experience the coldest nights.
In major towns, Nairobi is expected to record temperatures of 26°C during the day and 16°C at night, while Kisumu is forecast to be 29°C and 19°C, respectively. Coastal towns such as Mombasa, Malindi, and Lamu are expected to remain warm, with nighttime temperatures around 25°C.
Rains in the past one week
According to Kenya Met, rainfall was recorded in several parts of the country in the week ending April 13, with Makueni and parts of Wajir county recording the highest (70mm-100mm).
Between April 8 and April 13, daytime (maximum) temperatures decreased over most parts of the country, except in Voi, Lamu, and Suba, among others, which saw an increase.
