117 Kenyan companies are at risk of being shut down after the Registrar of Companies issues an official notice on possible dissolution.
This development signals possible job losses if the firms are eventually struck off the register.
In a Gazette Notice published on February 28, the Registrar, under the Companies Act (Cap. 486), announced the intended removal of the listed entities from the Register of Companies.
The notice provides a three-month window for any person to show cause why the companies should not be dissolved.
“PURSUANT to section 897 (3) of the Companies Act, the Registrar of Companies gives notice that the names of the companies specified hereunder shall be struck off from the Register of Companies at the expiry of three (3) months from the date of publication of this Notice, and invites any person to show cause why the companies should not be struck off from the Register of Companies,” the gazette notice read in part.
