The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFT) is hosting its 9th edition of the Kenya International Theatre Festival, scheduled to run from November 5 to November 17, 2024.
The festival, organized in partnership with the Kenya Cultural Centre, is taking place at the Kenya National Theatre and various participating theatres across Kenya. This year, #KITFest2024 will feature performances from over 16 countries worldwide, showcasing 45 theatre productions.
In addition to theatre, the festival offers a vibrant mix of music, dance, food, and interactive workshops, creating a rich experience for all attendees.
With a blend of established and emerging theatre productions, #KITFest2024 aims to celebrate diverse stories from Kenya and beyond while providing a platform for artists of all backgrounds.
KITFT hosts 9th Edition of the Kenya International Theatre Festival
“With more than 16 participating countries from all over the world, and 45 Theatre Shows this edition promises to continue celebrating theatrical performances from different parts of our country and from around the world while creating a bigger platform for existing theatre productions and emerging ones,” the press kit read.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, during the opening of the event, celebrated the resilience and unwavering spirit of Kenya’s theatre community.

“Despite years of facing significant challenges and limited government support, these dedicated artists have steadfastly sustained and enriched our national arts landscape,” Mudavadi remarked.
According to the Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust, “This year’s festival promises it all.”

Face of Kenya International Theatre Festival 2024
“The face of the festival this year is John Sibi Okumu. Being one of the legendary thespians of the industry, it’s an honour to have him grace us. He is a true representation of the growth of Kenyan theatre. The Ambassador of the festival this year is Martin Githinji aka Daddie Mart,” part of the press kit read.
For the past five years, the Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFT) has run capacity-building programs outside Nairobi, helping to develop and mentor theatre companies and performers across Kenya.

Programs like County Theatre Fiesta and Sauti za Boma will continue this mission by supporting emerging theatre groups and artists from various counties.
These programs will showcase some of the best theatre productions from around Kenya, with selected performances and installations featured at the main festival.
