Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced the recovery of former Citizen TV presenter Kimani Mbugua and ex-NTV Health and Science journalist Eunice Omollo.
In a statement on Tuesday October 15, Sonko provided an update on the two ex-journalists who are currently admitted at the Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Mental Rescue Center.
The former governor has been paying for their medical fees after they were admitted at the center back in May, with Kimani Mbugua having been transferred from Mathari Hospital where he was initially recuperating.
Following their admission nearly four months later, the former governor shared a video of the two, confirming that they have recovered fully.
Sonko attached videos of Eunice Omollo and Kimani Mbugua speaking during a ceremony to commemorate the World mental health day.
“There is God in heaven and may His name be praised. Former royal media journalist Kimani Mbugua and his NTV colleague Eunice Omollo are healed and fully recovered,” said Sonko.
In one of the videos, Eunice Omollo is heard speaking to the crowd gathered to commemorate the day, confidently identifying herself as a mental health champion.

She further shares her recovery journey and confirms that she has been able to fight back from her condition following her admission at the facility.
“It is a proponed honor to stand before you today on this special occasion of World Mental Health Day. I am so excited. As a journalist, I often take note listen observe and report about this kind of occasions but today I do not stand here as a journalist. I am standing here as a mental health champion and an advocate,” said Eunice amidst the claps of the crowd.
“For those who do not know me my name is Eunice Atieno Omollo. I am an award-winning Health and Science journalist with over ten years’ experience. Other than that, I am a loving mother with a ten-year-old boy, a devoted daughter sister and a friend.”

Omollo later went ahead to share her journey and disclosed that she had been living with bipolar disorder for 19 years, a condition that deeply impacted her personal and professional life.
Kimani Mbugua on his part shared his recovery journey and confirmed that he has been battling mental issues for the past four years.
Before being admitted at the facility, the journalist had been trending on social media when comedian Oga Obinna stepped in to assist him.

On May 17, Oga Obinna picked up Kimani Mbugua from his home and took him to Mathari Hospital.

This came after Kimani’s father revealed that was normal until his drink was spiked during a birthday party at a club on days leading to February 24, 2020.
“I leant that he held a party for his birthday around February 24. The sister unlocked his phone, and we saw the video of him with the women. My daughter told me that he saw some white substance being put in his glass and he was drinking it,” he said.
The father said Kimani changed after the incident which was recorded on camera.
He explained that Kimani was on a high for four days consecutively and was rushed to hospital on the fifth day after losing his cognitive abilities.
Upon learning about his situation, Sonko paid for Kimani’s bill at Mathari and promised to cater for all his expenses until he is discharged from rehab.
Meanwhile, Sonko said that Nasibo Kabale who is admitted at the facility is recovering well too. Boxing legend Conjestina Achieng also received treatment from professionals at the facility.
