The father of Kimani Mbugua, former Citizen TV journalist has revealed that his son was a well-behaved and sane man until 2020 when he went out to party.
Narrating the ordeal during an interview at the Obinna Show, he said that his son, the firstborn child, hosted his birthday party at a club on days leading to February 24 and he was never the same again after the event.
According to the father, they retrieved a video recording of Mbugua with unknown women in the club vomiting and acting in an unusual manner. He also said that one of the women spiked Kimani’s drink with a white substance which they later learnt was cocaine.
Following the incident, Kimani was on a high for four days consecutively and on the fifth day he was rushed to hospital after losing his cognitive abilities.

“We took him to the doctor, and he was admitted at Avenue Hospital. He was completely blacked out and did not even know where he was. so, I followed up to understand what had happened in the previous four days.
“I leant that he held a party for his birthday around February 24. The sister unlocked his phone and we saw the video of him with the women. My daughter told me that he saw some white substance being put in his glass and he was drinking it,” he said.

Life Before the Nightclub Party
Emotional, Mr. Mbugua explained that before that episode, his son was helping him run his Westlands based consultancy firm. The former journalist was the Managing Director at the company alongside his father who played an oversight role.
Additionally, his father explained that he took his work at the firm very seriously had great ideas to fuel the growth of the company.
However, things changed when he walked into the office in February 2020 and confessed that he had been drunk for four days consecutively.
“When he went back home, his girlfriend called me and told me that Kimani was speaking about things that nobody could understand. The girlfriend took him to hospital and when I got there, he was restrained and did not even recognize me. It broke my heart,” added the father.
Also, he revealed that Kimani was a sharp student is school, scoring an A plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations. He then secured a position in Moi University where he pursued a course in Journalism.
“It took time for him to convince me that with an A in biology, Chemistry and Physics that he was going to do a journalism course,” he added.

Where is Kimani Mbugua Now
Addressing concerns of where Kimani was staying, Mr. Mbugua said that he had been kept at an apartment in Thika and was under the observation of close relatives.
In addition, he noted that Kimani still had the freedom to move to the neighboring houses but was still not stable enough to be taken to hospital for treatment.
“He is an apartment in Thika, Makongeni phase 10 and I have put relatives there to watch his every move. It is under key and lock so he cannot harm himself and family can access him.
“He has freedom to leave and go to the neighbors and they call me to let me know. We are monitoring him until he stabilizes so that we can take him to hospital.
“I was also forced to move to Thika so that I can walk the journey with him. He is my only son.
