The family of Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye who was allegedly abducted in Nairobi, Kenya has revealed his last moments.

Kizza Besigye was reportedly kidnapped in Nairobi, on Saturday 16, 2024.

Close family sources disclosed that the opposition leader landed in Kenya on Saturday and took a taxi from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to his hotel.

It was further revealed that Kizza checked into the Waridi Paradise Hotel and Suites on the same day Saturday.

He then left with a taxi driver to go to a meeting at 108 Riverside Apartments, Apt no. C1102.

Besigye was scheduled to attend and speak at NARC Kenya Party leader Martha Karua’s book launch on Sunday, November 17 where he was a no-show.

His family and friends have not been able to trace him since he was dropped at riverside apartments and calls on his phone have gone unanswered.

The family alleges that Dr Besigye may have been abducted after he was dropped at the riverside apartments, most likely by Ugandan authorities working in cahoots with and facilitation from Kenyan authorities.

Winnie Byanyima Demands His Release

Earlier, Besyige’s wife Winnie Byanyima called out the Ugandan authorizes to release her husband whom she suspected had been sent back home where he is being held in a military jail

“I request the government of Uganda to release my husband Dr Kizza Besigye from where he is being held immediately. He was kidnapped last Saturday while he was in Nairobi for Martha Karua’s book launch,” she said.

“I am now reliably informed that he is in a military jail in Kampala. We his family and his lawyers demand to see him. He is not a soldier. Why is he being held in a military jail?”

Besigye Before Court

Meanwhile, Besigye is appearing at the General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala.

He’s appearing in the dock alongside ‘his comrade’ Hajj Lutale Kamulegeya on yet to be known charges.

However, court proceedings have been adjourned for 15 minutes after Dr Besigye said he has no lawyer given that he wasn’t able to contact anyone since he has been in detention.

Ugandan Activists Arrested in Kenya

In the month of July 2024 36 citizens of Uganda, were similarly abducted by Uganda security agents in cahoots with Kenyan authorities and spirited to Uganda where they were detained.

According to media reports the 36 individuals affiliated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) had travelled to Kisumu, Kenya for a leadership workshop and had been cleared by both Ugandan & Kenyan authorities at immigration.

They were allegedly tortured and had their belongings confiscated and subsequently transported to and detained in Uganda without undergoing immigration procedures.

Later they were publicly presented as individuals surrendered by the Kenyan Government.
