The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released its weather outlook for July 2026, listing areas to receive rain and forecasting generally dry and sunny conditions across most parts of the country this month.
However, the agency says some regions will continue to experience intermittent cool, cloudy weather with light rainfall, while temperatures are expected to remain warmer than usual nationwide throughout the month.
“The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority indicates that this July 2026, several parts of the country will be generally dry and sunny. However, intermittent cool, cloudy conditions, accompanied by light rain, are expected to prevail in some areas during the month,” KMD noted.
KMD Lists Areas Expected to Receive Rain
In their outlook, the meteorological department predicted rains in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, are expected to have cool and cloudy weather with occasional morning light rain or drizzle and isolated afternoon showers.
The Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Central and Southern Rift Valley are also expected to receive rainfall during the month. However, the department says the total rainfall in these regions is likely to remain below the long-term average for July.
“Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia: Rainfall is expected during the month of July. The expected total rainfall is likely to be below the long-term average amounts for July,” KMD listed.

Additionally, the Coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are forecast to receive occasional rainfall, with totals expected to be near or above the long-term average for the month.
Areas Expected to Remain Dry
According to KMD, several regions will remain largely sunny and dry throughout July.
Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to experience mainly dry weather, although a few areas bordering Uganda and South Sudan may receive occasional rainfall that is also forecast to be below average.
The Southeastern Lowlands, covering Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta and Kajiado, together with the northeastern counties of Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, are also expected to remain generally dry.
However, the weatherman noted that some parts of the Southeastern Lowlands bordering the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Nairobi County, as well as high-altitude areas in Marsabit County, could occasionally experience cool, cloudy conditions.

Temperature Outlook
KMD forecasts warmer-than-usual temperatures across the country throughout July 2026.
“Temperatures are expected to be warmer than usual across the whole country,” the outlook noted.
The department said above-normal temperatures are expected nationwide, even in areas that will occasionally experience cool, cloudy weather or light rainfall.
Residents across the country are therefore likely to experience warmer conditions than the long-term average for July.
