Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdalla Komesha has urged passengers to report reckless drivers to the police during the Easter holiday.
This comes amid traffic incidents following the Easter holiday rush with a larger number of people travelling to various places.
While speaking on Saturday, April 8, Komesha advised both motorists and road users to observe traffic rules while travelling to avoid accidents.
His sentiments came following an accident in Migori County where at least ten people were reported dead after a truck lost control and rammed into pedestrians.
“We therefore appeal to all road users to comply with traffic rules by putting on safety belts, adhering to speed limits, avoiding overloading and reckless driving, driving while texting, and driving un-roadworthy vehicles,” he warned.
Likewise, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome had highlighted road traffic accidents as a major cause of injuries and fatalities, with most of the victims being pedestrians, motorcyclists, and pillion passengers.

According to the inspector general, accidents are largely attributed to preventable human error.
He also called on motorists to drive carefully as the ongoing rains may lead to flooding of some roads.
Furthermore, IG Koome warned the public against overindulging in alcohol during the Easter holiday season. Adding that anyone found driving while intoxicated will be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
“With roads expected to be very busy, Traffic Officers will remain watchful to ensure free flow of traffic, compliance with traffic regulations, enforcement of traffic rules, and provision of assistance to the public as needed,” he said.
