Kenya Power and Lighting Company – KPLC has made 90-day pledge to all its customers in a new fast-tracking initiative launched on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
In a statement, the power company stated that the move was part of a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to fast-track meter installation for new connections across the country.
The Company’s Managing Director and Chief executive Officer Joseph Siror stated that the RRI will ensure that the meter installations are complete within 90 days.
According to the statement, the Managing Director made the decision to kickstart Customer Service Week across the country.

KPLC to address Challenges
Further, the KPLC boss admitted that the company had been facing challenges of procurement slowing down their service delivery.
However, the matter had been addressed so that its customers could continue enjoying timely services.
“In the recent past, we have experienced challenges with the procurement of critical materials which has negatively impacted our drive to onboard new customers.
“I am happy to note that these challenges have been addressed and we have started receiving meters, which we are deploying to clear pending connections,” stated Siror.
Kenya Power on Number of Connections Made
During the period, KPLC noted that it will connect over 320,000 customers using meters that were procured recently.
At the time this article was published, the power company stated that the total pending new connections stood at 236,924.
“Through the RRI that commenced this week, the Company has installed 10,759 meters for new connections.
“Despite the Company’s campaign to raise the national electricity access rate, many customers have been forced to wait for long periods as protracted court battles hindered procurement of meters and other materials,” added the power company.

Kenya Power on Increasing Electricity Uptake
KPLC has been championing for electricity uptake by encouraging Kenyans to use power to cook. The initiative dubbed ‘Pika na Power’, educates the public on alternative, safer and cheaper ways of cooking using electricity.
Moreover, in September 2023, Siror claimed it was possible to boil Githeri for only Ksh20 using electric appliances.
He added that it would boost the uptake of clean energy for cooking, which has been slow across the country due to the unreliability of power.
“You can boil ‘Githeri’ with Ksh20 worth of electricity. The perception that using electricity to cook is costly is wrong. Cooking with electricity is very cheap and we are willing to demonstrate this to our consumers,” Siror stated.
However, Kenyans hit back at the CEO lamenting that their power bills had already shot up and adopting electric appliances was not a prudent choice.
