A Georgia man has been released on bond after federal prosecutors accused him of posting violent threats against former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on social media, according to court filings.
The suspect, identified as Elliott Owen Schroer of Toccoa, Georgia, was arrested after investigators linked him to a series of posts made on X in early April.
Federal authorities say the messages contained explicit threats directed at the two public figures and were flagged for immediate review due to their severity.
Schroer has been charged in federal court and released on a $10,000 bond while awaiting further proceedings. As part of his release conditions, he is required to wear an electronic monitoring device and is prohibited from using any social media platform.
He is also barred from contacting Kristi Noem or Pam Bondi and must comply with additional restrictions, including limits on firearm possession and alcohol use.
Federal investigators trace alleged threats to online posts
According to prosecutors, the case began after law enforcement officials detected posts that appeared to threaten violence against Noem and Bondi. Investigators say the content was traced back to Schroer’s online accounts, leading to his identification and subsequent arrest.
Court documents indicate that the posts included graphic language directed at Kristi Noem, who previously served as Secretary of Homeland Security. Pam Bondi, a former state and federal prosecutor, was also named in the alleged threats.
Authorities have not released the full content of all messages, but filings describe them as severe enough to warrant federal intervention. Schroer was taken into custody shortly after being identified and was later brought before a federal judge for arraignment.
Bond granted with strict monitoring conditions
Following his court appearance, Schroer was granted pretrial release under strict conditions. The court set bond at $10,000 and ordered continuous electronic monitoring.

He is also prohibited from accessing social media platforms while the case is ongoing. Federal authorities imposed additional restrictions, including a ban on contacting the alleged victims and a prohibition on possessing firearms.
Officials have not confirmed whether Schroer has entered a plea or secured legal representation. The case remains active in federal court.
Online threats
The case comes in an ongoing increased scrutiny of online threats directed at public officials in the United States. Federal law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that digital threats, even when made online, can carry serious criminal consequences if they are deemed credible or specific.
Kristi Noem, a prominent Republican figure and former governor who later served in the Trump administration, and Pam Bondi, a former Attorney General and Trump-aligned legal official, are both high-profile political figures.
Authorities have not indicated whether the alleged threats are connected to any broader political movement or organized activity.

However, federal prosecutors continue to treat such cases as potential risks to public safety, particularly when threats involve identifiable individuals and explicit language.
Why this matters
This case shows how seriously U.S. authorities are treating online threats against public officials, especially when they involve detailed or violent language. Even when no physical attack occurs, federal law allows prosecution if threats are deemed credible or intended to intimidate.
It also reflects a growing legal and policy challenge: how to balance free speech protections with the need to prevent potential violence in a digital environment where political rhetoric can spread rapidly.
With Schroer now released under strict monitoring, the case will proceed in federal court and may further shape how similar threats are investigated and prosecuted in the future.
