Former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi has narrated his ordeal and alleged abduction after the funeral that turned chaotic in Ngarariga, Limuru, Kiambu County.

Mwathi while addressing the press stated that the day before the burial of Erastus, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called him and asked him if he would represent him in the funeral.

He added that the following day, Gachagua called him and asked if he could wait for him and attend the funeral together.

Mwathi stated that upon their arrival, they found a very excited crowd and secured a place to sit. He revealed that Limuru MP John Kiragu declined to sit in the VIP tent, opting instead to join a tent designated for the bishops.

“When we sat, I observed one thing that was unique, area MP John Kiragu had declined to sit where the VIP tents were and decided Akorino bishops were. When I asked someone, he said that the MP was offered but declined,” he said.

Peter Mwathi Narrates Events Before Melee in Limuru

Mwathi also mentioned that when the bishop was preaching, there was a large influx of young men who came from three different directions.

He noted that the said youth did not sit near the tents but stood or sat near the front, the gate, and the washrooms. He recalled one hooded man wearing a cap who even escorted him to the toilet.

“When I was invited to speak by the area MCA, the MCA hit out at the local MP for voting ‘yes’ on the impeachment motion against the former DP as his vote was the vote of Limuru and the crowd chanted. I broke my speech into two parts—one offering condolences and the other explaining why I will about Riggy G,” Mwathi narrated.

“When I started talking about how Gachagua  had come and campaigned against me and however, I was now sharing a platform with him because we had buried our interests in the greater interest of the community and region.”

Mwathi mentioned that when he started talking about Gachagua, there was a huge surge of youth moving towards the VIP tent, almost like it was a target.

The former MP stated that he urged one of the youths who was shouting to remain peaceful, but the youth shouted back, warning him not to talk about Gachagua again, which heightened the tension.

Ordeal in Hands of Alleged Abductors

He said that somebody pulled out the support of the tent and that is when I stopped talking and now it became worse everyone seeking for safety.

“They ran after us, and they had intentions. For the first time I ran frantically for 2 kilometers and for time I was getting down my knees were aching. They were armed with, machetes, and rungus. We managed to get into one of the houses, he told us that we had to pass through some tea leaves to get out,” he said.

“We took off and ended up on a road. My Personal assistant asked for a taxi to drive us away from Naivasha. On the way towards the flyover, we were stopped by two Subarus—one black stopped in front of us, and two men got out and one green was at the back.”

Mwathi stated that he was seated with the area MCA as they were running away. They were taken into the first vehicle, but about 100 meters away, the MCA was pulled out and transferred to a green car.

“I was sandwiched between them. All the men were hooded, wearing masks, and one had a cap. They told us, “Lazima utatii na utakaa hapo na tukikuuliza kitu, ujibu, usiangalie kando, angalia mbele.” They had short guns, and the vehicles didn’t have number plates. They also had walkie-talkies,” the MP narrated.

He added that he was grilled with questions about his children, family, and X (formerly Twitter) posts.

“We then took off towards Narok, and they stopped there, saying it was the last point. There were intense discussions between them, and they soon took off. As we approached the Southern Bypass, they started driving slowly. One of them said, “Unajua tunaweza kuua?” and what i had next was copied sir and the car stopped. They told me, “Toka, umbwa wewe.”

Mwathi said that after his release, he saw no houses nearby and had to run through ditches before finding a boda boda rider who helped him and dropped him off in Kilimani.
