Nairobi County Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches set for Sunday, August 10, 2025.
The notice, dated August 9, comes as thousands of fans are expected, causing heavy traffic around Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Several key roads will be closed to manage congestion. Aerodrome Road from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout will be shut.
List of roads to be closed ahead of the match
The affected roads include:
Aerodrome Road – From Bunyala Roundabout
Langata Road – From Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout (One side)
Mombasa Road – From Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout (One side)
Motorists heading to the Central Business District (CBD) from Mombasa Road are advised to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.
Alternative routes
Those using Lang’ata Road to access the CBD should divert via Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout.
“Those from Lang’ata Road to the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout. Motorists from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja or Thika should use Limuru or Kiambu Road,” Chirchir said.

Public service vehicles heading to Kasarani are urged to follow the Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road route through Ngomongo Roundabout.
Motorists from Thika Road towards the CBD should use either the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
The Nairobi County traffic commandant advised other road users to avoid Thika Road.
“Avoid Thika Road unless going to Kasarani Stadium,” he said.
The Harambee Stars vs Morocco Match
Sunday’s August 10, 2025, matches will see Kenya face Morocco at Nyayo National Stadium at 3:00 pm. Later, Zambia will play Angola at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, at 6:00 pm.
The Harambee Stars lead Group A with four points after a 1–1 draw against Angola, despite playing with ten men for much of the game.

Authorities say the traffic measures aim to ensure smooth movement and safety for both fans and motorists.
“These measures will help manage the heavy traffic and ensure everyone enjoys the matches without unnecessary delays or safety risks,” Chirchir noted.
