In a move aimed at contesting President William Ruto‘s Cabinet appointments, a youth-led lobby group has called upon the Kenyan youth to submit their views to Parliament.
The group called Bunge la Mayut has announced that it is offering free affidavit swearing services for individuals who wish to contest the suitability of the cabinet nominees before the National Assembly.
Citing Chapter 6 of the Constitution, Bunge la Mayut is assisting those interested in submitting documents opposing the nominees.
They reference Section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary) Act, 2011, which states that “any person may, prior to the approval hearing, and by written statement on oath, provide the Clerk with evidence contesting the suitability of a candidate to hold the office to which the candidate has been nominated.”
Additionally, to facilitate the process, the group has shared informative posters on their social media platforms answering questions people might have about the exercise.
How to Go About the Process
The group also revealed that they had partnered with advocates from various law firms who are available to assist individuals in getting their affidavits commissioned.
Once the affidavit is stamped, individuals are advised to scan it and email it to the Clerk of the National Assembly.

“Scan the commissioned statement and email it to the Clerk of the National Assembly on [email protected] and appointments.nationalassembly.go.ke. (BCC your name),” read the instructions outlined in the poster.
They can also choose to hand-deliver it to the Office of the Clerk at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi or mail it to the Clerk’s Postal address, which is P.O. BOX 41842-00100, Nairobi.
Furthermore, to ensure timely submission, the group recommends using the email or hand-delivery options since they are the most effective methods.
Drop Off Points for the Documents Challenging the Cabinet Appointments
For those unable to deliver their sworn affidavits directly to Parliament, the group announced that it had established several drop-off points in Nairobi and Thika.
These locations include:
- Nuria Book Store: 1st Floor, Bazaar Plaza, Moi Avenue
- Equity Plaza: Commercial Street, 4th Wing B Floor, Room 420, Thika
- International House: 8th Floor, Mama Ngina Street
- Kasarini Trading Center: Shop No.3, Kiambu Road, next to the Terrazzo Shop
The group however noted that a facilitation fee of 50 Ksh will be applicable at these drop-off points, and individuals should pay upon delivery.
