Roofings Kenya Limited has announced a complete shutdown of its operations in the country, citing severe financial difficulties and the high cost of running the business.
In a notice dated December 1, 2025, the company informed all employees that it will no longer be able to sustain or maintain any positions, effectively declaring its entire workforce redundant.
“We regret to inform you that due to serious financial difficulties and the high cost of operations, we have made the difficult decision to shut down all our operations. As a result, the Company will no longer be able to sustain on maintain any positions, hence your employment will be declared redundant,” read the notice.
Roofings Kenya Announces Shutdown of Operations
The notice stated that it serves as a 30-day warning in compliance with Section 40 of the Employment Act, 2007, with the official termination date set for January 2, 2026.
According to the signed communication from the Chief Executive Officer, employees are required to continue performing their duties professionally throughout the notice period.
The company warned that any unprofessional conduct could result in disciplinary action, including possible summary dismissal.
“During the notice period, you shall be required to carry out your duties and responsibilities professionally in accordance with Roofings Kenya Limited policies and procedures. If you demonstrate unprofessional conduct during the notice period, you shall be subjected to disciplinary action that could result to a summary dismissal,” read part of the notice.
Roofings Kenya also outlined the compensation employees will receive upon exit, including payment for accrued leave days, severance pay equivalent to 15 days’ salary for each completed year of service, a Certificate of Service, and any other entitlements stipulated in their contracts and the law.
The company further noted that consultation meetings will be held with employees and relevant unions before the notice period lapses to explain the redundancy process and address any concerns. Details of the meetings will be communicated separately.

Roofings Kenya expressed appreciation for the service and dedication of its staff, assuring them that the redundancy process would be conducted lawfully and transparently.
The notice by Roofings Kenya Limited comes at a time when several companies have shut down their operations in the country.
Some of the companies that have shut down or exited Kenya since the start of 2025 include CMC Motors, Al-Habib Bank, Caltex House Service Station Limited, and D.T. Dobie.
