The National Treasury has directed the immediate removal of the Chairperson and a director of the Kenya Seed Company Limited, Purity Ngirici.
In a letter addressed to Sammy K. Chepsiror, the Managing Director of Kenya Seed Company Limited, on April 30, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi instructed the company to effect the immediate removal of Purity Wangui Ngirici as Director and Chairperson of the Board.
According to the National Treasury, the directive is anchored in the Articles of Association of Kenya Seed Company Limited, which outline the governance framework for the company.
The CS noted that Article 80 of the Articles of Association provides for the appointment of directors with authority to manage and oversee the company’s business, while Article 97 sets out the procedure for the removal of a director.
He further stated that Article 98 empowers the company or the sponsor to replace or remove a director.
According to the letter, the removal of Purity Ngirici will be undertaken in accordance with Article 102 of the Articles of Association under which she was appointed.
“You are hereby advised to process the immediate removal of Ms. Purity Wangui Ngirici as Director and Chairman of the Board,” the National Treasury stated in the letter, adding that the instructions were to take effect immediately.

The Treasury CS further indicated that additional guidance would be provided in due course, suggesting that further communication or actions related to the board’s reconstitution may follow.
Purity Ngirici and Her Role at the Kenya Seed Company
Purity Ngirici is a former Kirinyaga Woman Representative who served in the National Assembly between 2017 and 2022.
Following the 2022 General Election, she contested the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate, finishing second in a closely contested race.
Ngirici was appointed to the Kenya Seed Company Board of Directors in mid‑2023 and subsequently elected by fellow directors as Board Chairperson during a board meeting held on July 1, 2023, in Kitale.
Ngirici’s election followed the end of an acting tenure by Mohammed Bulle, the Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC).

Her appointment was later formalized through a Gazette Notice dated July 21, 2023, issued by then Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, following the company’s Annual General Meeting.
As Chairperson of the Board, Purity Ngirici was responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to Kenya Seed Company Limited, one of the largest seed producers in the East African region.
The role involves guiding policy direction, overseeing management performance, and safeguarding the interests of farmers and other stakeholders.
At the time of her appointment, Ngirici publicly stated that she would work with management and stakeholders to increase seed production and support national food security objectives.
Kenya Seed Company supplies certified seeds to farmers across Kenya and the wider region.
