Renowned Media Personality and activist Mumbi Seraki has spoken after an incident that left her hospitalized.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 19, Seraki stated that she was drugged before being involved in an accident where the car she was in caught fire, destroying all her valuables.
Seraki believes the incident was a set-up and has raised concerns about what really happened that night.
“I have been really going through it these past few days, I am still in a lot of pain, battered and bruised, but whatever drug I was given has worn off, and I’m having more clarity but will updating you guys later today,” she said.

What Happened to Mumbi Seraki
According to her account of events, her phone was still trackable and appeared to be moving along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route to Nairobi.
Her handbag, documents, and other belongings were, however, destroyed in the fire.
The incident sparked concerns online, with a section of her followers questioning her whereabouts.
Others claimed that she had been abducted by the state and began pushing a #freedrMumbiseraki hashtag, asking whether it was a robbery gone wrong or a targeted attack.
Additionally, some supporters detailed that Seraki was lured by a friend who is a lawyer for a meet up and was drugged after that.
In response to the concerns, Seraki assured that she is focused on recovering and urged people to support one another through tough times.
Authorities have yet to issue a statement on the matter.

Who is Seraki
Mumbi Seraki has been a vocal critic of the government, using her social media platforms including TikTok, X , and YouTube to highlight injustices and hold authorities accountable.
With a growing online following, she has been outspoken about issues such as corruption, police brutality, and economic hardships affecting ordinary citizens.
She has worked in the media industry including as a breakfast show host of The State of the Nation at Nation Media Group, which made her a household name.
Also, some remember her from her 2012 Jamhuri Day celebrations performance of the reggae version of ‘Nchi Yetu’ at Nyayo Stadium.
Between August 2004 and august 2009, Dr Seraki worked in various departments for the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Fund to Fight Aids, TB and Malaria as a program officer, data analyst and researcher.
In June 2012, she joined the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) where she hosted ‘The Perspective’ show for 2 seasons.
In 2016, she graduated with a PhD in African Women studies from the university of Nairobi (UoN).
Similarly, she pursued a Master of Arts, Human Resource Management and Organizational Development from Webster Geneva Campus between 2002 and 2004.
For her Bachelors, she pursued Business Administration and Management at Quinlan School of Business, Loyola University Chicago between 1998 and 2002.
