Peter Magana Biography
Peter Magana Kenyatta is the little-known son of Kenya’s founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and the older half-brother of former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Born on August 11, 1943, at Worthing Hospital in West Sussex, United Kingdom, Peter Magana is the only child from the union between Jomo Kenyatta and his second wife, Edna Grace Clarke, an English woman. Edna was a schoolteacher and governess whom Kenyatta met while living and studying in the UK in the 1940s.
Kenyatta returned to Kenya shortly after Peter’s birth, leaving Edna and their son in the UK. Upon his return, he later married Grace Wanjiku, daughter of Senior Chief Koinange and sister to Mbiyu Koinange.

Peter Magana is the third-born child of Jomo Kenyatta. His half-siblings include Margaret Wambui Kenyatta (deceased), Peter Muigai Kenyatta (deceased), Jane Wambui Gecaga, Kristina Wambui Pratt, Anna Nyokabi Muthama, Muhoho Kenyatta, and Uhuru Kenyatta.
His mother, Edna Clarke, the second wife of Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta, reportedly died in April 1995 at the age of 86.
Family
Unlike many members of the Kenyatta family, who have been active in politics and business, Peter Magana has spent most of his life out of the public eye.
He spent many years in the United Kingdom, where he is said to have worked with the BBC as a presenter and producer before retiring.
Magana has maintained a low profile and rarely appears at family functions. He is reported to have been seen at a few key events, including his father’s memorial service in Kenya in 1979.
