Metropol’s Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) mobile app, Crystobol, won the gold award for Best Credit Score Monitoring App at the Mobile Apps Award 2023.
The Crystobol App was awarded after going through a public voting process.
During the award ceremony, the Metropol CRB Chief Executive Officer Gideon Kipyakwai expressed gratitude to Kenyans for their support.
Further, he stated that Crystobol customers’ data is validated to minimize human interaction, ensuring its security and integrity.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to those who voted and pledged Metropol’s continued commitment to providing excellent services, while also encouraging Kenyans to use the Crystobol App.
The prestigious award ceremony was hosted by Vibrant Digital Africa on November 23, 2023, at Sarova Panafric.
Of note, the ceremony attracted participants from various sectors including agriculture, banking, and the stock market.
Likewise, Vibrant Digital Africa’s Mobile App Awards celebrate Kenya’s mobile industry by recognizing exceptional apps and their respective companies.

Features of the Crystobol App
Crystobol is an app designed to ease the inconvenience Kenyans undergo while accessing their CRB services.
Further, the app is meant to eliminate the need to visit a physical location for the CRB services.
It is an innovative solution that enables you to register directly with Metropol CRB (MCRB) and access a range of services from the convenience of your mobile phone through a DIY (Do it yourself) program.
Additionally, one of the services available on Crystobol is the credit score measure.
A credit score measure takes stock of your credit worthiness and the likelihood that you will meet your financial obligations.
Further, the score is calculated using mathematical models which are developed from behavior patterns of credit data provided to the bureau.
Another service offered by the app is the provision of a credit report.
A credit report is a detailed account of one’s borrowing with all current credit providers and their credit performance.
The report lists all the credit accounts and the repayment history for each account.
Likewise, the Crystobol app offers the Certificate of clearance (CRB Certificate) which is a certificate presented before employment as evidence of not defaulting loans.
CRB certificate is also used by lenders when ascertaining whether or not one can receive a loan from them.
Other Characteristics of the App
Further, the Crystobol app helps users to view their CRB status through ‘My CRB’ status feature.
One’s CRB Status can either be in the Green List which means that one has no credit history or on the blacklist which implies that one has a negative credit history.
Otherwise, one can be on the gold list which means that the user has a positive credit history.
Another helpful feature on the app is the Who has listed me.
This detail offers a list of all the lenders who have contributed information about you to Metropol Credit Reference Bureau.
Metropol CRB’s services is currently available in Kenya and Uganda and can be accessed using the USSD code *443#.
