The body of a Masinde Muliro University lecturer Dr Jairus Omuteche, who had been missing since Saturday, has been found in the Jordan River.
According to Ebulonga area Chief Evans Ouya, Omuteche was working to repair his cowshed and left to collect sticks from his farm located along the riverbank in Ebulonga, Kakamega County on the day he went missing.
However, his family was concerned and raised the alarm when he failed to return home.
“We could see some fiddles already cut in his farm but one was lying in the flowing river waters. This raised suspicion that the late lecturer could have drowned, hence the family intensified the search efforts in the river,” said the chief.

Further, Ouya said that a three-days search in River Jordan ended on Monday, November 25 evening when divers discovered the body of the lecturer.
He was found about 15km away, near an intersection the river makes before entering River Yala.
Luanda detectives have since launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances of Omuteche’s death. The body has been moved to Itando Mission Hospital mortuary for further examination.
“Luanda detectives have taken up the matter to ascertain the cause of Omuteche’s sudden death,” added the chief.
Chief Ouya hailed the lecturer as a beacon of hope in the community.
“He was one of the few educationists we had. Apart from his university work, he established a fund to support children from humble backgrounds in pursuing higher education. He also employed local youth in various development projects,” he said.
