Moi University has assured that first-year admissions will go on as planned despite the strike notice issued by the University’s Academic Staff Union (UASU) lecturers.
In a notice dated August 14, 2025, Moi University stated that the reporting of first-year students on Thursday, 21 August 2025, will proceed as planned.
The University also reiterated that teaching, examinations, research, and all academic programmes will continue as scheduled.
“We reiterate that teaching, examinations, research, and all academic programmes are continuing as scheduled. This includes preparations for the reporting of our First-Year Students on Thursday, 21 August 2025, which will proceed as planned,” read part of the statement.
The University encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and assured parents and guardians that their children’s academic journey remains its highest priority.
Moi University Acknowledges Strike Notice
Additionally, the institution has acknowledged a strike notice issued by UASU, which was dated August 12, 2025.
However, the university has assured students, parents, guardians, and all stakeholders that the University remains fully committed to uninterrupted academic progression and the continued delivery of quality education.
“Moi University has noted a strike notice issued by the University’s Academic Staff Union (UASU) on 12th August 2025. We wish to assure our students, parents, guardians, and all stakeholders that the University remains fully committed to uninterrupted academic progression and the continued delivery of quality education,” read the notice.

University to Address UASU Concerns
The University also acknowledged the concerns raised by UASU and affirmed that the University Council and Management are actively engaging with the Union leadership, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant institutions to address the issues through constructive dialogue.

UASU Issues Demands
The Lecturers’ Union issued a seven-day strike notice to Moi University over delayed salaries and other agreements that have not been honored.
According to the notice, the strike is set to commence on August 20, 2025.
They issued the following demands:

Payment of June and July 2025 salaries as per the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement rates.

Implementation of the Return-To-Work Formula was signed on November 30, 2024, between UASU and the University Council.

Full compliance with clauses on staff review, promotion, and retirement age in the 2021–2025 National Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Upholding workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms under Article 41 and Chapter 4 of the Constitution.
