Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been appointed the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Mudavadi will hold the position until the next CS is appointed by President William Ruto.
This follows the appointment of Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President, replacing the ousted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
At the same time, Musalia Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1, a public holiday.
In a gazette notice dated Thursday, October 31, Mudavadi noted that the holiday will be held to mark the swearing-in of the new Deputy President-elect Kithure Kindiki.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, and sections 3 (b) and 12 (3) of the Assumption of Office of President Act, declares Friday, the 1st of November 2024, to be a public holiday,” the notice read.
“Being the date of the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate.”
Earlier, Chief of Staff Felix Kosei gazetted the formation of a committee comprising of 24 members to facilitate the swearing-in of Deputy President nominee Professor Kithure Kindiki.
The Assumption of the Office of Deputy President committee shall be headed by the Cabinet Secretary Mercy Wanjau.

Kindiki to Be Sworn in TomorrowSpeaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula on October 18, conveyed to the House that President William Ruto nominated Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as the next DP.
Wanje announced that the swearing-in ceremony of Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President-elect will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Further, the statement noted that the ceremony will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.), from 10:00 am.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the swearing-in ceremony of the Deputy President-designate shall take place on Friday, 1st November 2024, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.). in Nairobi City County, from 10.00 O’clock in the forenoon,” read the notice in part.
A three-judge bench led by Eric Ogola on Thursday, October 31 afternoon lifted conservatory orders preventing nominated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki from assuming office.

Kindiki Nomination
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula on October 18, conveyed to the House that President William Ruto nominated Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as the next DP.
The nomination aligned with Article 149 of the Constitution, which requires the President to nominate a candidate to fill a vacant deputy president position within 14 days.
“According to the provision of Standing Order 52 (1), I wish to report to the house that today morning, I received a message from the President Regarding the nomination of Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to fill the vacancy which has occurred in the Office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, following the impeachment of the previous office holder,” said Wetang’ula.
“As you are aware, Article 149 (1) of the Constitution provides as follows; ‘within 14 days after a vacancy in the Office of the DP arises, the President shall nominate a person to fill the vacancy, and the National Assembly shall vote on the nomination within 60 days after receiving it.”
