Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has issued a fresh 72-hour ultimatum to State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere Nsubuga, a close Cabinet ally of the Ugandan President.
In his ultimatum, General Kainerugaba demanded that Nameere apologize to him or face removal from her ministerial position.
“Nameere has exactly 72 hours to apologize to me. If she does not, I will remove her from her ministerial post,” Muhoozi said in a social media post dated September 20.
The fresh demand escalates a dispute involving Muhoozi, Nameere and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda.
In a video circulating in the media, the minister warned Muhoozi against interfering with National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators.
However, a longer version of the recording showed Nameere addressing Kabanda rather than Muhoozi, with the section identifying the person she was speaking to missing from the shorter clip.
Muhoozi had earlier criticized Nameere in a series of social media posts, including a September 15 warning that removing ministers from Cabinet was straightforward if they were not serving Ugandans’ interests.
On September 16, the General issued a 7-day deadline for Nameere to apologize for her remarks.
“I am giving Namere exactly seven days to apologize to me. If she does not, nothing will save her,” Kainerugaba said.

PLU Conflict
The conflict between Nameere and PLU figures grew during a May 2026 parliamentary leadership contest.
During the contest, Nameere supported then-Speaker Anita Among and publicly criticized Kabanda and other PLU officials.
She also questioned the group’s activities and accused Kabanda of blackmail.
The disagreement coincided with reports that security officials had questioned Nameere over alleged interference in the Speakership contest. Later, Nameere disputed the allegations.
Kabanda also questioned Nameere’s victory in the Masaka City Woman MP election following a contentious electoral process.
Reactions on Muhoozi’s Fresh Demands
Members of the public have expressed different opinions, with some supporting Muhoozi‘s demand while others questioned the basis for threatening Nameere’s position.
Some commenters, including Giana Faith, noted that Nameere should apologize if she were wrong, but questioned whether false information was being used to push for her removal.
Others defended Nameere’s record, describing her as a good leader who does not tolerate corruption, and said removing her would mean losing a capable minister.
Some users instead questioned what Nameere had done to warrant the ultimatum, called for political leaders to be allowed to perform their duties, and questioned the focus on political disputes.
Other reactions were more light-hearted, with Kararira Amon suggesting that the 72-hour period would give mediators, including Kabanda and Rogers Bulegeya, time to intervene.

Nameere’s Political Career
Nameere is a lawyer and former television presenter who has worked with NTV and other broadcasters.
She is the daughter of former Cabinet minister Vincent Ssempijja.
Politically, she won the Masaka City Woman MP seat in the 2026 elections after a court-ordered recount overturned an earlier declaration in favor of a National Unity Platform candidate.
Museveni appointed her State Minister for Local Government in May 2026.
