Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has broken his silence over President William Ruto’s remarks on abductions.
Speaking during his Marsabit Jukwaa La Usalama tour on May 14, 2025, the CS argued that the President was affirming the government’s long-standing position that it is not involved in abductions.
“Many people misunderstood the president. His remarks were twisted. The President was simply stating the government’s position that it will ensure no abductions happen,” Murkomen said.
President Ruto faced backlash on Monday, 12, 2025, following his remarks that several Kenyans who had previously gone missing under unclear circumstances have since been reunited with their families.

He further clarified that the government’s move to stop abductions should not be interpreted as an admission of involvement, adding that, similarly, efforts to curb drug trafficking do not suggest the government was part of the illegal trade.
“Do you have to be doing something to put an end to it as a government? The Government has a responsibility to end crime, and that is what we are doing,” he added.
During the tour, he was accompanied by Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali, Inspector General Douglas Kanja, Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton, and his North Horr counterpart Wario Guyo.
