The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has defended himself against allegations of incompetence during his tenure in the cabinet, dismissing the criticism as politically motivated.
Speaking in response to the public outcry over issues such as airport leaks and stalled infrastructure projects during his time as Transport CS, Murkomen claimed that such complaints are often exaggerated or driven by politicians.

He added that a small group of individuals is constantly seeking loopholes in his leadership, noting that since his reassignment from the Roads docket, accusations of incompetence “have subsided”.
“Ever since I left the Roads docket, you will notice there has not been much talk about incompetence on the new CS,” Murkomen said.

Murkomen Responds to Incompetence Allegations
According to Murkomen, there are a few individuals who are consistently seeking loopholes in his leadership across various dockets. Further, he pointed out that, even though he is no longer the CS for Roads, some are still calling him incompetent, regarding his new role as the CS for Interior.
“Statistics show that crimes have decreased since I became the CS for Interior, but a section of individuals have said that crime is still on the rise,” he added.

Despite the ongoing criticism, CS Murkomen maintained that he is no longer involved in active politics and that he is focused solely on service delivery.
“I am here to serve and to deliver on the mandate given to me by the people of Kenya,” he stated.

Take on Expensive Lifestyle
Kipchumba also addressed his scrutiny over his personal style, particularly his preference for designer shirts and flamboyant clothing, terming it unfair.
“Why am I being singled out for simply wearing shoes and shirts? Others wear the same clothes,” he said.
In an Interview on Obinna TV in 2024, Murkomen acknowledged owning one of the most expensive watches in his collection, with one item retailing for Ksh 900,000.
Additionally, the CS revealed that his most expensive shoes are priced between Ksh 70,000 and Ksh 80,000.
Moreover, he owns a belt valued between Ksh 40,000 and Ksh 50,000.

Airport Leaking Roof
During his tenure as Cabinet Secretary for Roads, he faced public backlash after a video surfaced showing a leaking roof at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The incident, which affected the Cargo Section and Terminal 1C, disrupted operations and sparked widespread criticism.
In response, the CS announced the immediate installation of gutters to manage rainwater and attributed the leaks to aging infrastructure.
He further assured the public that construction was already underway to address the issue and reaffirmed that a modern roofing solution would be completed within a month to prevent future disruptions.
