It’s important to identify the causes of the failure of social justice in society and to effectively address them through the revision of curricula and teacher training programs. Social justice is included in 17 SDGs. The United Nations is fostering social justice among societies and nations globally.
The Critical Role of Universities in Promoting Social Justice
Universities can be committed to social justice and enhance the intellectual capabilities of youth to play an active role in promoting it in society. Existing curricula need to be further strengthened with a critical review of social justice and the development of social justice skills. Teacher training programs and academic activities should be infused with deeper elaboration of social justice.
University leadership must also promote an institutional culture that enhances students’ vision about social justice. Core values such as justice, peace, conflict resolution, equity, respect for others, honesty, and community development should be integrated into all academic programs so that youth become symbols of positive change in society.
