Museveni’s Son, Muhoozi Kainerugamba, issued a warning to the Uganda Human Rights Commission members in Kampala, after a letter demanding the release of Edward Rogers Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe.
In a letter dated May 2, 2025, the Human Rights Body asked Chief of the Defence Forces Mohoozi Kainerugamba to immediately release Eddie who is a close aide of opposition leader Bobi Wine.
Edward, who has been in custody since April 26, is said to be unlawfully detained as per the letter.

“Whereas Edward Rogers Ssebuufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, has been in your custody since 26th April 2025 and whereas the Commission is satisfied that he is being unlawfully detained or restricted,” the letter reads in part.
“This is to direct you to cause the immediate release of Edward Rogers Ssebuufu from your custody, failure of which, you may be liable for contempt.”

In reaction to the letter, Muhoozi expressed warned the commission against sending such a letter to him again.
“If these people value the lives we gave them, they must never even think of sending me such a stupid letter again,” he said.
He also demanded an apology for the same.
“I expect an apology,” he stated in a social media post.
Why Eddie was detained
This comes after Eddie Mutwe, Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, was abducted and later dropped at Masaka court by unidentified security personnel in civilian clothes.

Gen Muhoozi, in a controversial social media post, said he was “disciplining” Eddie Mutwe by making him salute President Museveni’s portrait each morning before breakfast.
The statement triggered nationwide condemnation from human rights watchdogs, legal experts and opposition leaders.
Later on, Bobi Wine was charged with aggravated robbery, days after the head of the military said he had detained him.
Several human rights activists also condemned Mr Sebuufuu’s detention. Meanwhile, Uganda’s Human Rights Commission are calling for his immediate release.
Civil society organisations have also warned that his detention is part of a systematic campaign to silence dissent and crush opposition ahead of the general election.
However, the government blames the opposition for civilian and police clashes, saying they hold rallies without permission.
Lawyer Mr Kazibwe added that aside from aggravated robbery, Mr Sebuufu was also charged with simple robbery over an alleged incident in Lwengo District.
