The National Agency for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) has warned the public against a fake job advert that has been making rounds across various social media platforms.
In a statement dated July 25, NACADA said it was not recruiting and further called on job seekers to ignore the fake advert.
The Agency labelled the advert as “fake” stating that they only advertise job vacancies through mainstream and digital media platforms.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake job advertisement doing rounds online. Kindly be informed that the Authority is not hiring and that any vacancies are advertised through mainstream and digital platforms,” the statement read in parts.
NACADA Plea to Kenyans
Additionally, the Agency asked Kenyans to report any case of conmen trying to obtain money from Kenyans through the fake job adverts.
NACADA also explained that it does not charge any fee during any recruitment exercise.
“We urge the public to be vigilant and report any cases of extortion to us or the police for immediate action. The Authority is an equal opportunity employer and does not charge for any recruitment.,” read part of the statement.
Fake job adverts are normally designed to deceive and exploit innocent and unsuspecting job seekers.
In a communication on its website, the Public Service Commission (PSC) warned Kenyans about such adverts and explained how they can differentiate between original and fake adverts.
“We urge members of the public to always fact-check job adverts on our website or official social media platforms,” PSC said.

How to Spot the Fakes
PSC detailed different ways that job seekers can use to identify a fake job advertisement.
To begin with, Kenyans should research on the company before they apply for any job.
Job seekers should check if the company has any online presence, verify the company by googling it and see what information they will get.
Company’s and job employers normally have websites and social media pages.
“Verify the Source: Always double-check the authenticity of the job advert,” PSC said.

Kenyans should also Cross-check Details and Compare the details of the job advert with the information on the Company’s official website. Discrepancies may be a red flag.
“Request for Payment: Genuine employers never ask for payment from job applicants during the recruitment process. If you’re asked to pay for anything, that’s a scam Avoid,’ says PSC.
According to PSC, Suspicious contact information is also another red flag. If the provided contact details seem unusual or non-official, job applicants should be cautious.
