The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a 7-day cumulative rainfall forecast predicting intense rainfall in Nairobi and across the country between March 25 and March 31, 2025.
The latest prediction details that Central and Western Kenya, as well as parts of the Rift Valley, will receive significant amounts of rain, with some regions expected to experience over 50mm of rainfall in 24 hours.
Further, the rainfall intensity will increase as the week progresses, especially in central Kenya, including Nyeri, Laikipia, and parts of Meru, as well as the Nairobi metropolitan area.
The forecast highlights areas in Kiambu, Embu, Murang’a, and parts of the Rift Valley as being at risk of heavy rainfall, with some regions expected to receive rainfall exceeding 70mm in a day.
Consequently, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of isolated heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and possible flash floods, especially in low-lying areas.

Kenya Met Lists Nairobi and Areas that Will Receive Heavy Rainfall
According to the latest forecast, regions that will experience heavy rainfall include the Central Highlands counties including Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang’a and Kiambu.
Additionally, Western Kenya and Lake Victoria Basin Counties including Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, and Bungoma will receive heavy rainfall.
Other regions include the Rift Valley counties including Nakuru, Eldoret, Narok, Kericho, the Southeastern Lowlands including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni Counties, and the Coast including Mombasa, Malindi, Kwale Counties.
Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya Counties like Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Marsabit will also receive above-normal rainfall.
The Met Department has asked residents of these regions to stay vigilant, avoid crossing swollen rivers, and take necessary precautions to safeguard property and lives.

Areas that Will Experience Hot Weather
Although some regions will receive heavy rainfall, others will experience extreme temperatures according to the forecast.
The Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya will see temperatures above 30°C, with potential heatwaves during the day.
The weatherman had advised residents to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and limit outdoor activities during peak sun hours.
Also, the Central Highlands and parts of the Central Rift Valley will experience freezing nighttime temperatures dropping below 10°C.
