The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has announced a temporary water supply interruption affecting residents in several parts of Nairobi.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 21, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) said the interruption follows a burst in the Kabete–Kilimani transmission pipeline at around 1:00 am on Friday, March 20, which disrupted the water supply to several residential and commercial areas.

Because of the size and importance of the pipeline, the work is taking time to ensure it is done safely and correctly. Water supply is expected to be fully restored by Sunday, March 22, at 6:00 pm, once the repairs are completed.
As the repair work continues, Nairobi Water has urged residents in the affected areas to use the little water they may have sparingly. The company advised households and businesses to prioritise essential uses such as drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene until normal supply resumes.
To support residents facing urgent water needs, Nairobi Water said its water bowser services are available. Customers can request and pay for these water deliveries by dialing *260# and selecting option five.
The utility also reassured the public that water quality and public health remain a top priority during the restoration process. Nairobi Water said all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that once the supply resumes, the water is safe for use.
The company added that it continues to strengthen its response systems to handle such incidents more effectively in the future.
“Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company remains committed to rapid response to incidents, and long‑term improvements to deliver reliable, safe, and equitable water and sewerage services across Nairobi,” the utility said.

Heavy Rains Force Temporary Suspension of Repair Works on Outer Ring Road Pipeline
Earlier, Nairobi Water had provided an update on repair works along the damaged transmission pipeline on Outer Ring Road, saying most of the work has already been completed, with only a small section remaining to be fixed.
However, the utility said heavy rains experienced on March 15 forced repair teams to temporarily suspend operations for safety reasons.
According to the company, the ongoing rains have made conditions particularly dangerous around the river section of the pipeline, increasing the risk to workers and equipment.
Nairobi Water said the decision to halt work was necessary to prevent accidents and further damage.
“Unfortunately, the ongoing heavy rains have significantly hampered operations, particularly across the river section. Due to safety concerns for our staff and equipment, we were forced to halt all further works at approximately 10:00 pm last night,” the utility said.
The company added that repair work will resume once weather conditions improve and the river section becomes safe to access, noting that this could take several hours depending on rainfall intensity.
