Nakuru Girls High School has been temporarily closed, and parents have been asked to pick up their children by 7:00 a.m. on June 4.
In a notice sent to the parents and guardians of students at the institution, the school has released the students to go home following their request to the school management.
Nakuru Girls’ temporary closure comes after several schools have suspended learning following unrest and some experiencing fire outbreaks.
The Chief Principal at the learning institution requested that all parents and guardians make the necessary arrangements to pick up the students.
Alternative parents and guardians who could not pick up their children from the institutions were asked to make the necessary arrangements the facilitate the students’ travel.
“Due to the students’ request to be allowed to go home, you are hereby notified that they will be released today, Thursday, 4th June at 7:00 a.m. Kindly make the necessary arrangements to pick her up or facilitate her travel,” Nakuru Girls Chief Principal notified the guardians on the night of June 3.

Nakuru Girls Among Girls Schools Closed Temporarily
As Nakuru Girls High School students release the students on June 4, Loreto Girls High School students in the Limuru area, Kiambu County, halted learning activities on June 3.
Parents and guardians were requested to pick their children following student unrest on the night of June 2.
According to the school management, the students were to vacate the school grounds while authorities worked to restore order and investigate the events leading to the unrest.
Similarly, Naivasha Girls High School in Nakuru County released all students from the institution on June 2 due to student unrest.
In separate cases, the ongoing student unrest led to the indefinite closure of St. George’s Girls Secondary School.
Further learning was suspended at Gitugi Girls High School and Njumbi High School due to student disruptions and unrest.
Early in the late May, between May 28 and May 30, Utumishi Girls Academy in Nakuru and St. Paul Githakwa Secondary School in Nyeri were also closed due to a dormitory fire outbreak.

Boys’ School Temporarily Closed
As unrest and dormitory fires at educational institutions are being experienced in the country, St. Joseph’s Seminary Senior School in Molo was closed following a dormitory fire on May 30.
Further, on June 2, students at the Lenana School in Nairobi were asked to go home due to unrest during the night preps.
In addition, unrest at Tarakwa High School in Bomet and a fire that destroyed school property, with no injuries or casualties, led to the closure of the school.
A separate case of unrest in Murang’a led to the temporary closure of Njumbi High School, while Langata High School in Nairobi was closed after a fire broke out in the dormitory.
On June 4, the school management requested that parents and guardians pick up their children after a fire broke out in the mattress store department, with no casualties reported.
Authorities are yet to establish the cause of the fire, with investigations ongoing.
