Several National Police Service (NPS) officers have been awarded for their bravery in the line of duty with the Chandaria Bravery Award by billionaire and philanthropist Dr. Manu Chandaria.
NPS in a statement on August 9, said that twenty officers drawn from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police and the Directorate of Criminal Affairs (DCI) recognized for their acts of bravery in the line of duty were awarded during the ceremony.
Present at the event held on Thursday at NPS Headquarters were the Acting Inspector General of Police (IG) Gilbert Masengeli, and executives of the Chandaria Industries- among other senior officers.
According to NPS, the awarded officers exhibited acts of bravery in 2023, with some bearing permanent scars of their injuries.
“Today, Officers that exhibited acts of bravery in 2023 were awarded. Some of the Officers awarded today bear permanent scars of their injuries that led to amputation of their limbs, while others lost their lives,” read part of the statement.
In his remarks, acting IG Masengeli described the officers as unsung heroes who are worth recognition for their dedication to the security of Kenya, and thanked Chandaria Foundation for their continued cooperation with NPS.
NPS Officers Lauded
Billionaire Dr. Chandaria-the founder of Manu Chandaria Foundation, on his part, thanked the NPS Officers for putting their lives in danger for the safety of Kenya through their acts of bravery.
He further assured the Service of his continued support to the officers and widows of fallen heroes.

While lauding the Billionaire’s Chandaria Foundation, the Deputy IG-Kenya Police, Eliud Lagat, highlighted its kind gesture and also commended the officers for their bravery and selflessness, noting that their acts are a representation of the heroic deeds of many other NPS officers.
DCI Director Mohammed I. Amin who was also present thanked Dr. Chandaria for his philanthropy to NPS and the wider society.

The Chandaria Bravery Award is awarded annually to NPS Officers upon exhibition of bravery, valor, and selflessness in their service to our nation.

Moreover, the awards aim to recognize police officers who in their line of duty stand out.
Thursday’s Awards marked the 36th edition of the Chandaria Bravery Awards held every year.
The awards are part of the of the activities undertaken by the Manu Chandaria Foundation that for years has made an impact in various aspects of life.
Through its various initiatives, the foundation is dedicated to helping people in improving their lives in matters of education, healthcare and youth activities.
Also, within its scope are matters concerning the environment and ecology conservation in over 11 African countries.
In 2023, Chandaria had in two different editions awarded another group of police officers who had been selected for their selfless service.
Among those awarded in the 2023 March edition included an officer who had returned Ksh450,000 to a couple who had lost the money after an accident in Mombasa.
In addition, a police inspector who rescued a colleague on the verge of committing suicide by shooting himself at a police station was also feted.
