Civil Aviation Authority Approves Licenses for 35 Airlines

The Civil Aviation Authority of Kenya has approved air service licences for 35 airlines.

In a gazette notice dated December 13, the Authority stated that that the licences were granted depending on the type of service applied for.

“Pursuant to the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act, 2013 and the Civil Aviation (Licensing of Air Services) Regulations, 2018 (Regulation 28), notice is given that the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has made decisions on applications for air service licences whose particulars were previously published in the Gazette Notice No. 12032 of 2024,” read the notice in part.

“The decisions are specified in the third column and the particulars of the applications are in the second column for each applicant named in the first column of the Schedule.”

Among the airlines granted licenses was Skyward Express Limited. The airline received a three-year license for both international and domestic scheduled air services, as well as for domestic and international non-scheduled air services.

Civil Aviation Authority Approves Licenses for 35 Airlines

Arusha Medivac Limited was approved to operate international non-scheduled emergency medical services between designated entry and exit points in Tanzania and Kenya, using a PA31 aircraft based in Arusha, Tanzania.

Licence was granted for two (2) years with effect from 10th August 2024.

Additionally, Cargolux Airlines International S.A., based at Luxembourg Airport has been granted a license to operate international non-scheduled cargo air services on multiple routes connecting Luxembourg, Nairobi, and other global destinations.

Licence granted for two (2) years with effect from 2nd July 2024 without traffic rights between points in Africa and Nairobi.

Airlines with variations to the licenses granted for the period of validity of their existing licenses include SAC (K) Limited, Dragonfly Aviation Limited, Lady Lori (K) Limited, Astral Aviation Limited, Airvan Kenya Limited, Flight Training Centre Limited, and Northwood Agencies Limited.

Airlines Granted Two Licences

Sandpiper Aviation Limited, based at Wilson Airport and Orly Airpark, has been granted licenses for various services effective November 3, 2024.

Three-year licenses were issued for international non-scheduled air services for passengers, cargo, and mail to/from points in Africa, as well as domestic non-scheduled air services for passengers, cargo, and mail within Kenya.

One-year licenses were granted for aerial work services, including patrol, observation, surveys, photography, and sightseeing within Africa.

Furthermore, Bluebird Aviation Limited, based in Nairobi, has been granted licenses for various aviation services, effective July 1, 2024.

The airline received a one-year license for international and domestic scheduled air services and a three-year license for domestic and international non-scheduled air services.

African Express Airways (K) Limited will operate international scheduled and non-scheduled flights, as well as domestic and non-scheduled services, for a period of three years, while its domestic scheduled operations will be licensed for one year.

Several other airlines have also received three-year licenses, including Jetways Airlines Limited, I Fly Air Solutions Limited, Safari Express Cargo Limited, and Tropic Air Limited.

Other Airlines Approved for Air Operation

Meanwhile, airlines such as Rotorjet Aviation Company Limited, Muhwai Limited, and Fanjet Express Limited have also been granted operating licenses for three years.

A number of airlines, including Encomm Limited dba HAMCO Aviation Limited, Rudufu Limited, Skylift Group Limited, Kasas Limited, Bestlink Air Services Limited, Aerojet Aviation Limited, and Airvan Kenya Limited, have been granted licenses for one year.

Other one-year license holders include Airspray (K) Limited, Magma Aviation Limited, Air Bonanza Express Limited, Kenya Airlines Limited, ALS Limited, Peakwing Aviation Limited, and Wilderness Air Limited Private Bag.

Other airlines granted a one-year operational license include Rotorjet Aviation Company Limited, Muhwai Limited, and Fanjet Express Limited.

Airlines granted a three-year operational license include Jetways Airlines Limited, I Fly Air Solutions Limited, Safari Express Cargo Limited, Tropic Air Limited, and Wilderness Air Limited.

Airlines licensed for one year of operations also include Encomm Limited (dba HAMCO Aviation Limited), Rudufu Limited, Skylift Group Limited, Kasas Limited, Bestlink Air Services Limited, Aerojet Aviation Limited, and Airvan Kenya Limited.

Additionally, other airlines granted operational licenses for varying periods include Airspray (K) Limited, Magma Aviation Limited, Air Bonanza Express Limited, Kenya Airlines Limited, ALS Limited, Peakwing Aviation Limited, and Wilderness Air Limited.
